Jamie Wei Huang SS15 at London Fashion Week Collection Review
As I mentioned in my last LFW post, I really enjoyed the Jamie Wei Huang SS15 Runway show. It was one of the first shows I went to during fashion week, it was a smooth-running show, with a short wait and amazing seats so it was a relaxed, nice start to LFW. Just judging by the first pictures, you can already tell that the collection featured great fabrics a feminine, yet vibrant colour palette and cuts that play with masculine and feminine elements.
Jamie Wei Huang graduated from Central Saint Martins Art and Design College and has gained experience through working in high-end fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane. It almost feels like she picked up on Christopher Kane’s great use of print and McQueen’s use of textures and combined the two in her garments, adding a sporty chic approach.
To be fair I almost feel like I have seen enough of flats and chunky sandals on the runway. I know trainers and flats have been massive trends in the collections of the big names of the industry and I do feel these clean cut flats suit Jamie Wei Huang’s edgy and sporty approach, but I actually like her chunky platform heels more and feel like they give the models a great attitude and emphasise their femininity both in their walk and appearance, which makes Jamie’s sporty chic looks very balanced.
I did really enjoy the walk of this particular model, you see above. She has a very edgy, current and boyish look that I feel really suits the collections. I could tell the audition was noticing her, especially because she has an eye catching style. Some might say they appreciate more feminine models but I felt she really delivered the clothes well and was definitely memorable.
All of Jamie’s pieces were really nicely tailored and made out of a rich material that shapes well. I also loved that the designer chose to only close the first two buttons of the jackets and go for the style that Alexander Wang and Rodarte went for last season, which gave their shirts a luxe, sporty nightgown feel.
What do you think about this Spring Summer collection?
Much love xxx
