Fall 17 Gypsy Sport Collection NYFW
We’ve seen plenty of designers attempt to pick up the political climate and address inequality. Let’s be honest many miserable failed with not-so-impressive slogan t-shirt. A prime example on how it’s really done delivers Rio Uribe from Gypsy Sport.
“I want to take my responsibility and shed some light on something I ignore too often,” said Uribe, speaking over a Tannoy from backstage. “I learned so much from speaking to people who live outside; I’ve learned so much about humanity. I think we’re actually a very loving people who want to help each other, but sometimes that’s not what is preached to us…. Let’s fight for a new world, a decent world, one where we can make room for each other.”
After those strong words I expected a strong collection and I got non other. I must say if you aren’t familiar with the gypsy sport aesthetic the pieces might take some getting used to. However I think it’s a great variation from the typical mainstream. Also I always adore the choice of models. The label on purpose chooses very unique interesting looking people to walk in their show in star in their campaign. Although it’s nothing completely new go with non traditional looking models, I still think it’s refreshing and adds edge to the looks.
My favorite moment in the show was definitely the first very face model snatching someones phone out the front row. People at shows are always so focused on capturing everything on there phone that I’m sure they wouldn’t know what they just saw if asked straight away. I even caught myself doing the same at another show and literally forced myself to place my phone done and just enjoy the show. But this is a couple different story that I might get into at another point.
The point now is: I love the Gypsy Sport show and totally support their agenda.
